Channel 5 and Sky News Win Edinburgh TV Festival Channel Of The Year Awards

Channel 5 and Sky News have scooped the first ever Channel of the Year Awards at this year’s Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (GEITF). Channel 5 has been awarded Terrestrial Channel of the Year and Sky News has won the award for Non-Terrestrial Channel of the Year. The Awards were presented to the broadcasters in Edinburgh by Kirsty Young and attended by leading figures from the broadcasting industry. Chief Executive Dawn Airey, collected the award on behalf of Channel 5, and Adam Boulton, Political Editor and John Ryley, Executive Editor, accepted the award for Sky News in a packed Edinburgh event this evening.

Lord Puttnam To Give Worldview Address At Edinburgh International TV Festival 2002

Lord Puttnam, one of the most respected figures in British film and television, and the Chairman of the Joint Committee on the draft communications bill will give this year’s Worldview Address at the Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (GEITF). In an increasingly competitive market, viewers feel that sex, nudity and eroticism are being used as tools to grab their attention.

The Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival Launches Programme 2002

Stuart Prebble, David Liddiment, Christiane Amanpour, Michael Portillo MP, Richard Eyre, Irvine Welsh, Orla Guerin, Adam Bolton, Anne Sweeney, Jana Bennett, Joel Surnow, David Starkey, Mick Desmond, Ricky Gervais and Jerry Springer are just some of the names confirmed for this year’s Guardian Edinburgh International TV Festival, (GEITF) which has today announced the full details of the 2002 Festival events programme (23rd July). GEITF 2002 Advisory Chair and Joint Managing Director of Tiger Aspect, Charles Brand said, “In an extraordinary year during which television has become centre stage - with the horrific events of 11th September, live coverage of the Afghan war, meltdown in the Middle East, not to mention two funerals, a Jubilee and a World Cup – the TV industry is obsessed more with its own future than ever before. This year’s Festival pulls together a diverse cast of moguls, international broadcasters, not to mention the cream of the industry to try and make sense of it all.”

The Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival Unveils Channel of the Year Shortlist

The Guardian Edinburgh International Television Festival (GEITF) has today revealed the shortlist for its new Channel of the Year Award initiative. All five terrestrial channels are shortlisted, along with six non-terrestrial channels, E4, Sky News, Sky One, UK Style, The Discovery Channel and Bravo. For the first time ever both a terrestrial and non-terrestrial channel will be recognised at a high profile Edinburgh event, presented by Kirsty Young.
